Earth 28

So, in a week where everything and then some is about Star Wars... I post Justice League fanart.
This serves as a cover for the first story arc in my fanfiction project about the DC Universe. I plan for nine of those, the story stretching from the beginnings of Superman and Batman to the 'Beyond Era' that leads to the creation of the Legion of Super Heroes.

About the concept: this is Earth 23, one of the only 52 Earth that we know absolutely nothing about. So, I claim it as my playground. This is an alternate take on the Justice League, that combines elements from the DC comics, the DCAU, a few elements from TV shows like Smallville, Arrow, The Flash, Young Justice and some elements from the Nolan trilogy. 

About the cover itself, the first volume covers the story from the destruction of Krypton to the first time the main heroes of Earth join forces to face an Invasion, forming the Justice League. 
So, down there, are the founding members of the League: Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Black Canary, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Flash (Barry Allen), and J'onn Jonnz from Mars. I know Aquaman is a founding member, but, despite my best efforts, I can't bring myself to find any use for poor Orin. He'll be a secondary character. So, I could have gone with the 'Hawkgirl option', when it comes to create the league, but Shayera will have her own plot and she wasn't invited to the first bash.

Now, about the making of that piece. The main inspiration was the incredible cover Alex Ross gave the 'the History of the DC Universe' (Google that, and you'll find it easily enough).
I'm proud to say I drew most of the character from scratch, for once (the Batman is even a very old sketch of mine that I finally got to use). Kal-El, Bats, Diana and J'onn were drawn on paper, scanned and painted over. Flash and Green Lantern were painted in directly on the tablet (I used a picture of Usain Bolt for the running pose). Black Canary was painted over a photograph of Yvonne Strahovski, that I tweaked a little further to get the result I wanted. 
I will admit cheating for the Gotham back ground and the little bit of Paradise Island behind the statue. I suck at doing backgrounds. Also, the starfield behind is from deviantart, but I can't find the source... 

just a little detail: the design of J'onn Jonnz was originally a design by the brilliant Stjepan Sejic (Nebezial). I loved his take, so I used it as a model for my drawing. You can find the original there: nebezial.deviantart.com/art/ma….

I don't have any ownership, shareholding power or any kind of reason that would allow me to profit from anything remotely related to DC comics... So, you know... for fun and all that.

EDIT: oops, I realised that DC actually identified Earth 23 in their multiverse. That's the one where an african american Superman is the President of the United States... So let's switch universes, shall we. We're off to Earth-28!
